sparrows start to nest (10/72)

(working as part of a ‘Japanese 72 season micro-climate’ artist collaborative initiative within Treesisters)

Japanese season called ‘Shobun’/ Spring Equinox 21st March until 4th April .
Micro climate ‘sparrows start to nest’ 21st – 25th March.

We have lost our native house sparrows here. They have been missing for over a decade.
As a child I remember hundreds of them chirping around my father’s Philadelphus bush in the yard, but then they disappeared. In the last few years he has noticed them returning in small numbers…..but not here on the hill.
I thought I’d have a go at copying some from a video of beautiful Japanese calligraphy work on You Tube that I have long gazed at in awe. Two of these are all mine tho!

I also wanted to add a track from a well loved album that always pops into my mind when I think of sparrows….one track, from an album very close to my heart, by the Watersons (called ‘Bright Phoebus’) performed by the late, great, Lal Waterson. There are other versions available that do not, possibly, infringe copyright, but none of them are a patch on her……I share only in utter reverence to her music.
(Warning heavy folk music alert!)
