worms surface (20/72)

(working as part of a ‘Japanese 72 season micro-climate’ artist collaborative initiative within Treesisters)

Japanese season called ‘Rikka’/ Beginning of Summer. 5th May until 20th May .
Micro climate ‘worms surface’ 10th May – 14th May.

As above, so below…. life bursting out everywhere…..blessed be!

Only the ash tree left to burst out in green…I have been looking more closely at them….due to the spread of ash die back here…but happy to report that I can see young leaves sprouting in most cases! They do stand out though as ‘winter’ among the other trees…it makes me wonder about why they were chosen as the ‘Tree of Life’ in Norse mythology….they are majestic though, in full maturity.

‘Ash before the oak, we are in for a soak,
Oak before the ash we are in for a splash’

We have always said this here….an old, old rhyme referencing the summer’s, predicted, weather….but I cannot recall one year when the ash has ever been before the oak!

And the last few years we have had a real soaking here in Scotland!
